Degree Programs in Elementary Education

Early learning experiences are the critical building blocks for success in higher learning an those who champion early and elementary learners are key to this success. From Pre-K to elementary learning settings, there is a need for educators who have a passion to match their expertise.

Choose your path from three programs focused on either early childhood or elementary-level education. Our Early Childhood Education programs prepare you to guide areas such as early development in the youngest learners, while the BS degree in elementary education offers preparation in teaching at the PK-6 levels.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Early Childhood Education

Take the first step to helping others take their first learning steps with this exploration of early childhood education. Your 60-credit-hour program will help you get up to speed on educational fundamentals to make an impact in the classroom sooner than later. Curriculum covers early childhood development, age-appropriate curriculum, creative activities, and more.

 

The Early Childhood Education Associate of Applied Science degree program at Baker College is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The current accreditation term runs from March 2021-March 2028. 

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Early Childhood Education

Advance your early childhood teaching opportunities with a 120-credit-hour program to learn how to create a safe educational space where our youngest learners can explore and grow. Core coursework covers early childhood development and developing curriculum for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers as well as fieldwork experiences.

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Elementary Education

Develop your essential approach to Gain teaching learners at the PK-6 levels. Explore key concepts in educational theory, curriculum design, classroom management, and pedagogical techniques. Take advantage of real-world, in-program teaching experiences, including 200 hours of observation and apprenticeship, along with a student teaching experience.

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Elementary Education – Accelerated

You have the opportunity to earn your BS degree in as little as two years and one semester through this elementary education program that develops your core fundamentals in educational theory, curriculum design, classroom management, and pedagogical techniques. Put class theory into practice through 200 hours of observation and apprenticeship, along with a robust student teaching experience.

Successful completion of this program and the appropriate Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) exams will result in Michigan teacher certification. Enrollment in this program is restricted to Michigan residents and those intending to work in the state of Michigan after completion.
